Deta is a Berlin-based start-up, currently developing an AI-integrated web browser Deta Surf. I collaborated with them to create their product launch video in form of an hand-drawn animation, inspired by the soft Studio Ghibli aesthetic deviating from the typical tech-centric visuals. The animation follows Zoe, a curious and playful child reminiscing her first encounter with the web, the fast developments that followed, towards a re-exploration through Deta Surf, a new approach to the browsing experience.

In times of immigration for improved opportunities and quality of life, we can go through moments of remembrance and longing to our origins, childhood and culture, might even feel displaced. We seek comfort and protectiveness in the smallest of things in daily life that gives the needed familiarity feeling. “Unhomely” tries to touch upon the familiar and safe feeling one gets when come across by a simple but believed to be highly protective cultural token “nazar boncuğu”.

Loggerhead sea turtles, commonly known as Caretta Caretta in Turkey, are endangered species in the south coasts. One of the main human-related reason for their endangerment is touristic construction. New born hatchlings find their way to the sea by following the moonlight but due to the artificial light caused by nearby hotels, they lose their way and cannot reach the sea. The short animation “Moonlit” follows the journey of a new born Caretta Caretta trying to find its way by following the moonlight.

We all have safe spaces to escape our own reality and find an alternate dream world where we can be the heroes of our own story. The short movie “The Slot Machine” delves into that space between reality and fantasy through the act of playing a slot machine. A guy that regularly comes to play the slot machine escapes into his dream world through a western-themed game of the slot machine in which he becomes the main character of his story. He represents everything that he can not be in the real world through this imaginary scenario he achieves with the slot machine.
